Waterford — A 63-year-old man suffered serious injuries in a crash Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 395 north, just north of Exit 2, police said.

Edwin Graham of Norwich was driving his pickup truck in the area of Exit 2 about 4:24 p.m. when a cover on the bed of his truck flew off and was struck and run over by a vehicle behind him. Graham pulled over and attempted to cross the highway when he was struck by another vehicle, according to Connecticut State Police Troop E.

Police said Tuesday that Graham was being transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, and would probably be taken by Life Star from there. Life Star originally was called to the scene but that was canceled and the helicopter was going to meet the ground transport at L+M.

Northbound lanes of the highway temporarily shut down at Exit 2 so the scene could be mapped, while southbound had one lane open for a time, police said. The highway reopened at 6:05 p.m.

The vehicle that struck the fallen truck covering was driven by 80-year-old Laura Covin from Uncasville. Graham was struck by a Honda Civic driven by 44-year-old Kevin Parsley of Plainfield, according to police. Neither of them sustained injuries.
