Woman killed in Mystic crash
Mystic — A woman was killed and another person injured in a motor vehicle crash here Thursday afternoon.
Two vehicles collided about 12:30 p.m. on Coogan Boulevard in the Mystic section of Stonington near the intersection with Jerry Browne Road. A woman who was driving one of the vehicles suffered serious injuries and was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London, where she was pronounced dead, according to Stonington Police Department Capt. Todd Olson.
The driver of the other vehicle, a man, also was injured and taken to a hospital, Olson said.
The names and ages of the people involved were not immediately released.
The woman was driving a black Chevrolet sedan that sustained heavy damage to the driver's side. The front of the other vehicle, a white Jeep, also was badly damaged.
The regional accident reconstruction team responded to the scene, including officers from the Ledyard and Town of Groton police departments. The cause of the crash still was being determined but it appeared to be a head-on collision, Olson said.
The road was closed as police investigated, he said.
