Firefighters battle blaze at commercial building in East Lyme
East Lyme — A two-alarm fire engulfed a commercial building at 206 Boston Post Road (Route 1) in East Lyme on Saturday.
Flames could be seen shooting from the roof of the building, which is home to Atlantic Building Products. Smoke from the blaze could be seen for miles.
Firefighters from the Flanders Fire Department first arrived on scene at about 11:30 a.m. and called in mutual aid from several neighboring departments. The fire was already well underway. Officials say there were at least two employees in the building when the fire broke out and they were able to evacuate.
No injuries were reported.
The building, which is part showroom and part warehouse, was severely damaged and the roof eventually collapsed. Atlantic Building Products sells kitchen cabinetry, counter tops, doors and siding, among other products.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the fire marshal’s office.
