Norwich — Norwich Public Utilities crews responded to a "very challenging" water main break Tuesday that disrupted water service for approximately 50 customers in the Yantic section for much of the day and overnight, NPU officials said.

The water main break occurred about 11:30 a.m. on Yantic Road. NPU crews excavated around and will remove the damaged section of 1926 pipe. NPU officials said the work has been "very challenging" and they hope to have the work completed and water restored by early Wednesday morning.

Updates will be posted on the NPU Facebook page, facebook.com/NPUtilities, and on the automated customer phone calling system.

NPU is providing water to customers affected by the water main break at the Yantic Fire Engine Co. No. 1 station on Yantic Road.
