Correctional officer charged with sexual assault of inmate at York
State police have charged a correctional officer at York Correctional Institution with sexual assault of an inmate at the women’s prison in East Lyme.
Michael Mabry, 40, of New Haven was charged with second-degree sexual assault on Thursday. State police said they had received what is known as a Prison Rape Elimination Act complaint from York on May 9. The alleged incident had occurred on April 27 and involved Mabry and a female inmate having a sexual encounter at the prison, state police said in a statement. They did not publicly identify the woman.
The complaint was investigated by the Eastern District Major Crime Unit from Troop E in Montville. Police obtained a warrant for Mabry’s arrest. Mabry turned himself in on Thursday.
Police said Mabry, who is no longer a correctional officer, is due to appear July 14 in New London Superior Court. He is free on a $50,000 bond. Further information was not immediately available.
