    Local roundup: Old Lyme rallies for 3-2 volleyball win over North Branford

    Old Lyme — Old Lyme rallied for a two-game deficit to defeat North Branford 3-2 in a Shoreline Conference volleyball match on Wednesday.

    Game scores were 24-26, 22-25, 25-18, 25-21 and 15-13.

    Peighton Andrews had nine kills and 22 digs for the Wildcats (2-3, 2-3) while Grace Phaneuf finished eight aces and 12 assists and Quinn Arico had six aces, six kills and 13 assists.

    In other matches;

    • Lillian Steinhaus had 22 assists and five aces as Waterford defeated Plainfield 25-20, 25-13 and 25-8. Mia Petrini added five digs, kills and three aces for the Lancers (4-3) while Emerson Lane had seven kills and Brielle Kenney five kills.

    • Gabrielle Papale had five kills, five assists and two aces to highlight Bacon Academy’s 25-8, 25-17 and 25-14 win over Killingly. Carolyn Baehr added three kills and five aces while Kiera Stewart had four kills, four aces and four assists for the Bobcats (4-2).

    • Ledyard defeated New London 25-13, 25-4 and 25-12. Megan Tabraham had 12 aces for the Colonels (3-2) while Layla Lasisomphone and Brylee Johnson each had six aces, and Emily Peckham and Grace Haydash each had four aces. Nalyce Dudley had four kills and 10 digsfor the Whalers (0-5) while Kmara Royster added three blocks, 12 digs and one kill.

    • Anna Ruggeri had 14 assists as Wheeler defeated Ellis Tech 25-21, 25-12 and 25-21 for its first win. Michelle Macina added seven aces and Skyler Morgan six kills for the Lions (1-4).

    • Norwich Tech outlasted Montville 28-26, 18-25, 31-29 and 25-22 in a non-league match. Kaylee Gray have 11 kills two aces and three digs for the Warriors (3-3) while Caitlyn Flynn added 13 digs, three assists and three aces, and Nancy Johnny finished with 15 assists and five digs. Zoie Farrar had 16 digs, nine kills and four blocks, Grace Galvin had 19 digs, Ava Collins had four blocks and four kills and Reagan Buscetto had 12 assists and seven digs for Montville (1-5).

    H.S. field hockey

    • Samantha Silva scored three goals as Waterford beat Woodstock 6-0 in an ECC game on Tuesday. Lauren Montanari and Katie Jamroga also scored for the Lancers (1-4, 1-2).

    H.S. swimming

    • Waterford lost to Haddam-Killingworth in a nonleague meet on Tuesday, 89-79. Julia Gathy won a pair of events for the Lancers (1-2). Gathy won the 200 freestyle (2:17.40) and 500 freestyle (5:56.81). Elizabeth Saucier and Hannah Bloomberg also won events for Waterford.

    Women’s soccer

    • Cassandra Roman, a freshman from New London, scored with just three minutes remaining to lift Mitchell College to a 1-0 win over North Vermont-Lyndon. Andee Schaffen assisted for the Mariners (2-3-1) and goalie Gemma Landry made seven saves.

    College field hockey

    • Conn College scored three goals in the fourth quarter to defeat Smith College 4-1 on Tuesday. Bridge McGann scored two goals in the quarter for the Camels (2-3) while Kyle Quinn added her second goal of the night. Goalie Sophie Moniz made two saves for Conn.

    College volleyball

    • Conn College improved to 4-1 with a 25-22, 25-19 and 25-22 win over Saint Joseph in West Hartford. Emma Wheeler led the way with a season-high 14 kills and hit .600 for the match while Katie Gunderman (Oakland, Calif.) added nine kills and three blocks while hitting .412.

    • Smith College outlasted Coast Guard 3-1 in the NEWMAC on Tuesday night. Game scores were 25-21, 25-19, 14-25 and 25-18. Noelle Tursky led the Bears (9-3, 0-2) with 10 kills, 13 assists, eight digs, seven blocks and five aces, Allie Wildsmith added seven blocks, Kaela France 14 digs and four aces and Maeve Duffin 11 assists, three aces and four digs.
