Local roundup: NFA girls blank Fitch in ECC Division I match
Groton — Jordan Fabry scored two goals and added an assist as Norwich Free Academy rolled to a 4-0 victory over Fitch in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I girls’ soccer match on Monday night.
The Wildcats (5-5-1, 2-1) scored all four goals in the first half.
Hayleigh Young and Brooke Bolles each added a goal for NFA while Emily Tucker had two assists, Chloe Green one and goalie Ava Boenig mad two saves.
Grace Jenkins made 10 saves in goal for the Falcons (1-9-1, 0-3).
In other matches:
• Summer Antonino and Abbie Belleville scored in the span of 90 seconds in the second half to break a 1-1 tie as East Lyme edged Waterford 3-2. Riddhi Venkatesh added a first half goal for the Vikings (7-4) and Morgan Dube had six saves. Marin Mahoney scored twice for the Lancers (4-5-1), who held a 12-7 edge in shots, and goalie Victoria Sturm made three saves.
• Alexa Tufares, assisted by Avery Bouchey, scored a second-half goal as Montville rallied for a 1-1 double overtime draw with St. Bernard. The Saints (7-2-1) had taken a 1-0 lead in the first half on a goal by Angelica Tompkins (Merzako Kambolli assisted). Chloe Jennings made 11 saves for the Saints while Katie Myjak stopped 16 shots in goal for Montville (5-3-2).
H.S. boys’ soccer
• Sal Alessio had two goals and an assist to highlight Stonington’s 3-0 victory over Fitch. Alessio set up Ryan Turner with the game’s first goal before converting a penalty kick and adding his second goal off an assist by Brett Caron. The Bears are 7-2-3. Nate Virtue made five saves in goal for the Falcons (2-8).
• Williams School senior Calvin Neff was recently named Connecticut High School Player of the Week by United Soccer Coaches/Max Preps. Neff has scored 12 goals for the Blues, who host Wooster School on Wednesday at 4:15 p.m.
H.S. volleyball
• Grace Phaneuf had 13 assists and five aces to pace Old Lyme past Cromwell 25-18, 25-14 and 25-16 in the Shoreline Conference. Kelly Sheehan added seven digs and Peighton Andrews five kills for the Wildcats (5-7, 3-7), who have won three straight.
• Montville defeated Grasso Tech 25-22, 25-13 and 25-16 in a non-conference match. Ava Collins had seven kills and three aces for Montville (5-9) while Karla Flores added five kills, three assists, four digs and two aces, Grace Buecker three kills, three assists and one ace, and Alyna Ovalles six digs, six aces and one kill. Jamilette Montes led Grasso Tech (1-10) with eight service points and four kills.
• Natalie Lucas had six kills and eight digs as Hand beat Norwich Free Academy 25-14, 17-25, 25-9, 25-23. Stella Hogan had seven kills and seven digs, Katelyn Friday had six kills, six digs and two aces, Jillian Dykema had 14 digs and Kala Lansford had 11 kills for NFA (3-7).
Men’s soccer
• Nolan Clack scord three goals as Mitchell College erupted after a scoreless first half to defeat Massachusetts Maritime 5-0 in a non-league match. Snadooby Robert and Dylan Lucey of Lyman Memorial each added a goal for the Mariners (4-6) while New London’s Flavio Alvarado, Nick Forst and Jack Varley each had an assist.
• Coast Guard Academy and Norwich played to a scoreless draw in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference. Goalie John Vaaler mad two saves for the Bears (7-2-3, 1-2-1), who held a 14-8 edge in shots.
