    Local roundup: Unbeaten Griswold snaps Waterford’s seven-game volleyball winning streak

    Griswold — Unbeaten Griswold took over sole possession of first place in the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II volleyball standings with a 25-21, 25=2- and 25-20 win over Waterford on Wednesday night.

    The loss snapped Waterford’s seven-match winning streak.

    Kuranda Ruggiero had six kills, 11 assists, seven digs and a block for the Wolverines (11-0, 3-0) while Abby Matheson added six kills and four digs, Gretta Dombkowski four aces, two kills and three digs, and Makayla Neilson three blocks and four kills.

    Marina Colonis had nine digs and five kills for the Lancers (9-4, 2-1) while Lillian Steinhaus added 14 assists, Mia Petrini nine digs, two kills and two aces, and Emerson Lane two digs, four kills, four blocks and three aces.

    In other matches:

    • Bacon Academy rallied for a 21-25, 25-20, 26-24 and 25-16 win over Ledyard in an ECC Division II game. Kiera Stewart had 20 assists and eight digs for the Bobcats (8-6, 2-2) while Megan Swanke added eight digs, Meghan Walsh 10 kills, Leah Brown eight kills, Ava McCarvill seven kills and Sammi D’Atri 18 digs. Layla Lassisophone had 11 digs and 13 assists for the Colonels (6-9, 0-4) while Aniya Pearson added 10 kills, Grace Haydash 12 digs, Bryleigh Johnson 24 digs and Megan Tabraham five aces.

    • Carlee DeRoehn had seven aces, five digs, nine kills and seven assists to highlight Lyman Memorial’s 25-18, 25-11 and 25-16 win over Plainfield in an ECC Division III match. Arianna Garcia added three aces and 16 digs for the Bulldogs (10-4, 3-0) while Mia Attardi had four aces and seven digs, Erica Arpin eight digs and Kassidy LaTour fouir digs, five kills and 14 assists.

    • Wheeler maintained its lead in the ECC Division IV standings with a 22-25, 25-16, 20-25, 26-24 and 15-12 win over Montville. Michelle Macina had aces for the Lions (9-4, 4-0) while Addison Stanley added four kills and seven blocks and Bryn Anderson had four kills and two blocks. Reagan Buscetto had 16 Assists, eight kills and four digs for Montville (5-10, 2-2) while Zoie Farrar added 10 Kills and 12 Digs, and Grace Galvin and Alyna Ovalles had 10 digs apiece.

    • Old Lyme had its three-match losing streak snapped, losing to Haddam-Killingworth 25-21, 25-19 and 25-21 in the Shoreline Conference. Grace Phaneuf had nine assists and 10 digs for the Wildcats (5-8, 3-8) while Peighton Andrews added five kills and seven digs and Jamie Bucior 10 digs and 14 service points.

    • Emma Pavlak had 12 service points and five kills during Grasso Tech’s 14-25, 25-22, 25-14 and 25-13 loss to Vinal Tech in the Connecticut Technical Conference. Alex Santora added five points and four assists for the Eagles (1-11, 1-8).

    Men’s basketball

    • UConn junior guard Andre Jackson Jr. suffered a fracture to the pinky finger on his right hand during practice and underwent successful surgery on Wednesday to repair the injury. His status, according to a UConn release, will be re-evaluated in November.

    “We will obviously miss Andre’s skill and experience on the court, but he will continue to contribute to the team with his tremendous energy and leadership,” UConn Coach Dan Hurley said. “We look forward to getting him back in action as soon as he’s ready.”

    Men’s soccer

    • Connecticut College defeated No. 13 Babson 3-0 on Wednesday night at Silfen Field. Elliot Spatz, Augie Djerdjaj and Gavin Vanden Berg each scored a goal for the Camels (6-3-2). Babson is 8-3-2.

    College volleyball

    • Elizabeth Atkinson led the way with seven blocks as Coast Guard defeated Wellesley 25-20, 21-25, 25-15, 25-19 Tuesday in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference. Shannon Shaw, Allie Wildsmith and Noelle Tursky each had 10 kills, while Kaela France had a match-high 30 digs and Maeve Duffin had 19 assists. Coast Guard is 15-5 overall, 4-3 in the NEWMAC.

    H.S. swimming

    • Laura Letellier won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:25.74 and swam a leg on two winning relay teams for Fitch/Stonington/Wheeler/New London in a 90-69 victory Tuesday over Haddam-Killingworth. Delaney Reck, Letellier. Anna Orphanides and Sophia Pacheco won the 200 medley relay in 2:02.64 and Letellier, Sian Crespo, Jill Arcilla and Addison Fulling teamed to take the 200 free relay in 1:54.71. Fulling, Reck, Orphanides, Pacheco and Elliott Singer also won individual events for the Falcons (7-0).

    • Lauren Hinckley won the 100-yard butterfly (1:10.21) and diving (159) in East Lyme’s 87-62 victory over Ledyard on Tuesday. Ruby Thoms (200 free), Donna Park (200 IM), Julia Morcos (50 free) and Hannah Socha (500 free) also took individual events for East Lyme. Lauren Day finished first in the 100 freestyle for Ledyard, which also got wins from Sunny Dudda (100 backstroke) and Thelma Grogan (100 breaststroke).

    • Julia Gathy won the 200-meter freestyle (2:33.19) and 400 free (5:19.32) to highlight Waterford’s 105-75 non-league win over Old Lyme/Valley Regional/Old Saybrook on Tuesday. The Lancers (3-4) also picked up individual wins from Elizabeth Jane Saucier in the 50 free (32.06), Hannah Ard in diving (200.10 points), Elizabeth Blain in the 100 free (1:17.05) and Hannah Blomberg in the 100 breaststroke (1:34.32). Emily Rothrock won the 200 IM (2:52.25) and 100 butterfly (1:22.84) for OL/VR/OS.
