    Local roundup: Wheeler volleyball keeps climbing with win over Grasso Tech

    North Stonington — Skyler Morgan served six aces and Emma Cottingham served five as Wheeler High School swept Grasso Tech 25-17, 25-19, 25-14 in a nonleague girls’ volleyball match Monday.

    Bryn Anderson had two blocks for Wheeler (12-5), which clinched the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division IV regular-season title last week.

    Jada Muirhead served 13 points with two kills for Grasso Tech (2-14) while Antonia Orbe had five digs and nine service points.

    In other matches:

    • Marina Colonis had 12 digs, 11 kills and seven aces as Waterford knocked off Woodstock Academy 21-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-8. Mia Petrini had 13 digs and four aces, Erica Mugovero had eight digs and five aces and Emerson Lane had eight kills, two digs and two aces for Waterford (14-5).

    • Grace Haydash had 20 kills, 16 digs and five aces as Ledyard topped Norwich Free Academy 25-14, 17-25, 25-12, 31-29 to qualify for the CIAC Class L tournament. Layla Lasisomphone had 29 assists and 12 digs, Bryleigh Johnson had 19 digs and Stella Hogan had nine kills for Ledyard (8-12). Also, Kaitlyn Friday had three kills and eight digs and Kayla Lansford had four kills, three blocks and two digs.

    • Kuranda Ruggiero had 22 assists, eight digs, four kills and two blocks as unbeaten Griswold swept Old Lyme 25-16, 25-16, 25-13. Emily Aviles had 16 digs and four aces, Kierra Neilson had 12 kills and four blocks and Gretta Dombkowski had seven kills and three digs for Griswold (17-0). Jamie Bucior had 10 digs, Peighton Andrew had eight kills and Grace Phaneuf had six assists for Old Lyme (5-13).

    • Katie Tuohy had 10 kills and combined with Madi Aldinger for 39 digs as Fitch defeated Platt 25-20, 23-25, 25-23, 25-7. Annalyn Cahill added 15 kills for Fitch (11-7).

    Boys’ soccer

    • Anders Silberberg had two goals and an assist and Luke Celic added a goal and an assist as Old Lyme overwhelmed Coginchaug 7-0 in a Shoreline Conference game. John Buckley, Liam Celic, Lucas Dasilva and Jonah Lathrop scored for the Wildcats (6-5-4, 6-3-2) and Mason Bussman and Jair Lata each added an assist. Also, Lathrop and Oliver Wyman combined for two saves.

    • Calvin Neff and Ben Xenelis scored for Williams in its 2-1 win over Christian Heritage School. Williams is 4-8.

    Girls’ soccer

    • Alexis Fenton had a goal and an assist as Old Lyme shut out Old Saybrook 2-0 in a Shoreline Conference match. Beatrice Hunt scored for Old Lyme (7-5-3, 7-3-2) and Calla Gibson had three saves.

    • Grace Gelhaus scored twice in Woodstock Academy’s 3-1 victory over East Lyme in ECC Division I. Abbie Belleville scored for East Lyme (8-6, 3-3) and Morgan Dube made six saves in goal.

    Girls’ swimming

    • Guilford gave the Fitch/Stonington/New London/Wheeler co-op its first loss of the season, 89-81. Delaney Reck won the 100 butterfly (1:02.11) and 100 backstroke (1:00.53), Addison Fulling (5:34.88) won the 500 freestyle and Laura Letellier won the 100 breaststroke (1:11.76) for the Eastern Connecticut Conference regular-season champions (10-1). Also, Elliott Singer, Anna Orphanides, Fulling and Reck teamed to win the 400 freestyle relay (3:49.89).
