    Local roundup: New London boys keep rolling with win over Fitch

    Groton — Devan Williams scored a game-high 27 points as New London outlasted Fitch 60-52 in a boys’ basketball game on Wednesday night.

    The Whalers (13-2) have won nine straight.

    J.J. Tobinson scored 14 points to lead the Falcons (10-4).

    In other games:

    • Forman defeated Williams School 60-29. Ray Bian led the Blues with six points and Sam Kaplan added five.

    • Amare Marshall had 17 points in St. Bernard’s 63-35 win over Woodstock Academy on Tuesday night. Alexander Johnson scored 11 for the Saints (12-2).

    H.S. wrestling

    • Taylor Jones (220 pounds) earned a pin in just 33 seconds to highlight Waterford’s 51-27 win over Montville. The Lancers (9-12) also picked up pins from Brody Ruest (120), Javier Gonzalez (152), Lukas Turner (160) and Zachary Ruest (182) while Lucas Gannotti (145) earned a 5-0 decision. Adrian Adames (106), Christian Hall (126) and James Linder Jr. (138) had pins for Montville while Karla Flores (113) won 11-4.

    • Consecutive pins by Lukas McKusick (120), ReubenMinter (122), Anthony Caisse (138) and J.J. Morse (138) carried East Lyme/Norwich Tech to a 56-15 victory over Griswold/Wheeler. Lincoln Carlson (160), Brayden Soleau (182) and Jackson Lin (285) also had pins for the Vikings (12-8) while Seth Christie (113) and Rylee Kenny (152) had pins for the Wolverines (11-9).

    • Fitch took advantage of six forfeits to overcome an early 24-0 deficit and defeat Ellis Tech 52-30. Shad Stewart (138) and Fabian Aponte Flores (160) had pins for the Falcons (5-11) while Luca Ursini earned a 16-3 major decision.

    • No. 7 Killingly remained unbeaten with a 55-18 win over Norwich Free Academy. Zaire Wallace (195) had the lone pin for the Wildcats (17-7) while Will Ambruso (120) and Dugan March (138) each won by decision.

    Men’s basketball

    • Coast Guard Academy fell behind by 14 points at halftime and lost to Clark 79-66 in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference. Declan Rooney scored 14 points for the Bears (4-16, 2-7) while Trevor Parks, Elijah Parent and Bryce VanderWiere had 12 points apiece and Jarrod Jackson finished with 10.

    Women’s basketball

    • Kelly Hagerty scored 16 points and all 13 Coast Guard players hit the scoring column during an 89-29 victory over Mount Holyoke in the NEWMAC. Kira Wood made three 3-pointers and finished with nine points for the Bears (11-9, 3-2) while Abbey Guidry finished with 10 rebounds.

    Girls’ hockey

    • Three local players helped the Woodstock Academy cooperative program defeat the Fairfield co-op 6-0 at the Pomfret School. Norwich Tech’s Caitlyn Flynn and East Lyme’s Mia Williamson each had a goal and two assists while Wheeler’s Sophia Gouveia also scored a goal. Woodstock freshman Maci Corradi led the Centaurs with two goals an an assist.

    Girls’ basketball

    • Lyman Memorial outlasted Griswold 46-44 on Tuesday night for its 10th win. Phoebe Carpenter had 14 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and three blocks for the Bulldogs (10-4) while Jenny Lopez added 11 points, five assists and three steals. Kierra Nielson scored 17 points for the Wolverines (4-10) and Abby Matheson added 14.
