New Haven — MIke Urgo of the Fitch cooperative program earned a medal during the CIAC State Open swimming and diving championships on Saturday at Yale University.

Urgo, a senior who attends Wheeler HIgh School, finished fourth in the 100-yard freestyle in 47.24 seconds (the top six finishers received medals and all-state recognition).

Urgo also finished eighth in the 50 free (21.72) while teammate Jacob Lin, a sophomore finished seventh in the 100 butterfly (51.34) and eighth in the 200 individual medley (1:55.88).

The Falcons also qualified in two relays with Urgo, Lin, Evan Hespeler and Samuel Ainscough placing 10th in the 200 freestyle relay (1:29.34) and the same quartet finishing 15th in the 200 medley relay (1:40.50).

Greenwich won the team championship with 639 points and Fitch finished 15th with 147.

College swimming

• Connecticut College sophomore Justin Finkel earned All-America status for the second time at the NCAA Championships when he finished second in the 200-yard butterfly on Friday night in Greensboro, N.C.

Finkel, who finished second in the 500 freestyle on Wednesday, broke the school and NESCAC record in Friday’s final (1:44.32), but Frank Applebaum of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps successfully defended his title with an NCAA record time of 1:43.96.

Finkel also teamed with seniors Tadeusz Trzewik-Quinn, Mitchell Lockwood and Marc Stern to finish 13th in the 800 freestyle relay, good enough for honorable mention All-American honors.

Men’s lacrosse

• Taylor Gustafson scored three goals during Coast Guard’s 16-8 loss to Babson in the NEWMAC. Waterford’s Caleb Holdridge added two goals for the Bears (3-2, 0-2) and goalie Dan Lucas made 17 saves.

• Tim Sommer scored five goals as Hamilton outlasted Conn College 16-10 in the NESCAC. Bobby Chang and J.J. Ford scored thre goals apiece for the Camels (1-3, 0-2) and face-off specialist Jason Fastiggi had five ground balls.

Women’s lacrosse

• Hamilton outscored Conn College 6-0 in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 16-8 NESCAC win. Emily Yorns, Kate Coughlin and Julianna Ingrassia scored two goals apiece for the Camels (3-2, 0-2) while Abigail Gleeson-Feldman had four ground balls.

• Coast Guard opened its NEWMAC season with a 17-4 victory over Emerson. Addy Bass, Brenda Anderson, Gianna Cascio scored two goals apiece for the Bears (4-2, 1-0).

• Castleton scored nine goals in the first period and cruised to a 22-2 non-conference win over Mitchell College. Jessica Krupnikoff scored both goals for the Mariners (1-2), her fifth and sixth of the season, and goalie Hannah Gomes of Groton made 11 saves.
