    H.S. softball: Hill leads Bacon Academy past Montville

    Colchester — Reina Hill belted a three-run home run, drove in four runs and scored two to help power the Bacon Academy softball team past Montville 9-3 Tuesday in CIAC Class M state tournament first-round action.

    Hill finished with two hits and Reagan Reid went 3-for 4-for the eighth-seeded Bobcats (16-5).

    Bacon Academy will host No. 9 Griswold in the second round on Wednesday.

    Izzy Mitchell homered for the No. 25 Wolves (13-11).

    In other games:

    • Abby Matheson pitched a one-hitter and struck out eight and also contributed a single, double and RBI in Griswold’s 3-2 win over No. 24 Northwestern in Class M first-round action. Kierra Nelson’s single drove in Summer McLean, who had singled, with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh for the Wolverines (16-6). Elaina Conrad also had two hits for Griswold.

    • No. 7 Stonington scored in the first and sixth innings and Lindsey Houle tossed a shutout in a 2-0 victory over No. 23 Lauralton Hall in Class M first round play. Cami Brown scored both runs and singled and walked for the Bears (16-6), who will host No. 10 Lewis Mills on Wednesday.

    • Emma Bayor allowed one hit in five innings while walking one and striking out 15 in No. 6 Old Lyme’s 14-0 shutout of No. 27 Windsor Locks in Class S first-round action. Ava Roth went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI while Elena Torres-Russell had a single, double and RBI and Sybil Neary added two doubles and an RBI for the Wildcats (18-5), who will host No. 22 Windham Tech on Wednesday.

    • Abby Robinson’s RBI single in the bottom of the 12th inning lifted No. 8 East Lyme past No. 25 Rocky Hill 3-2 in Class L first-round play. Robinson earned the win, allowing six hits and one earned run while striking out 21. Grace DuBrava and Avery Stadler had RBI hits for the Vikings (17-7), who will host No. 9 Mercy on Wednesday.

    • No. 21 Fitch upset No. 12 New Milford 13-10 in the Class L first round. Katie McPherson went 5-for-5 with six RBI while Grace Cosmopoulos had three hits, including a home run, and two RBI for the Falcons (12-11), who will visit No. 5 Brookfield on Wednesday. Maerin Lyon, Jaedyn Steffens and Marcella Rentas each added two hits.

    • No. 16 Ledyard’s season came to an end with a 14-6 loss to No. 17 Wethersfield in Class L first-round play. The Colonels finished 11-11.

    • No. 16 Norwich Free Academy lost to No. 17 New Canaan 5-3 in Class LL first-round action. The Wildcats ended with a 14-9 record.

    • In the Class S first round, No. 7 Wheeler rolled past No. 26 Derby 22-0 in a game that lasted five innings. The Lions (15-5) will host Immaculate on Wednesday at Wheeler Middle School.

    • No. 24 St. Bernard fell to No. 9 Holy Cross 4-3 in Class S first-round play. The Saints finished with a 12-11 record.
