    High school baseball: East Lyme tops Bethel 5-1 to earn a trip to the Class L semis

    Bethel — Alex Dreyfus was 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI and the East Lyme High School baseball team scored four times in the second inning Saturday to break a 1-1 tie as the 13th-seeded Vikings beat No. 5 Bethel 5-1 in the quarterfinals of the Class L state tournament.

    East Lyme (18-8) advanced to the semifinals, where it will meet top-seeded Woodstock Academy on Tuesday at a site and time to be announced in a rematch of the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I tournament championship game.

    Woodstock won the ECC title 8-7 on May 24. The Centaurs defeated No. 9 Guilford 7-1 Saturday to advance to the semis.

    Dylan Joyce pitched 6.2 innings, allowing one run on two hits for the Vikings against Bethel and Aidan Cochrane got the last out to earn the save.

    AJ Montejano, Joyce and Connor Tukey also drove in runs for East Lyme and Montejano scored twice.

    In other games:

    • Bradin Anderson had a hit and drove in a run and Mason Perkins had a hit and a run scored for No. 10 Wheeler in a 9-1 loss to No. 15 Oxford in the Class S state tournament quarterfinals. Oxford broke the game open with six runs in the second inning. Wheeler finished the season 17-7.
