    Local roundup: RHAM beats East Lyme in volleyball opener

    East Lyme —Abby Parulis had 14 kills and six digs for the East Lyme High School volleyball team Wednesday in a season-opening loss to RHAM.

    RHAM won by game scores of 25-20, 25-22, 25-13.

    Natalie Knowlton added 10 kills and Bella Diep 15 assists for East Lyme.

    College volleyball

    • Carlee Lingle had a season-high 11 kills with a .556 kill percentage and Kaela France had 18 digs for Coast Guard Academy in Tuesday’s 25-15, 25-19, 25-22 victory over Westfield State. Vickie Mancine added 12 digs and two aces and sophomore setter Sophia Rosenberg finished with a career-high 19 assists for the Bears (2-2).

    Women’s soccer

    • Georgia Bonney scored on a penalty kick with 24 seconds remaining Tuesday to lift UMass Boston past Coast Guard 1-0. It was the season-opener for Coast Guard.

    Calendar

    • The Waterford Babe Ruth annual meeting and election of officers will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Babe Ruth Field. The league is looking for volunteers to serve on the board of directors. If interested, please contact president Lucas Beaney via email at beans3@snet.net
