Local roundup: Bussman lifts Old Lyme girls’ soccer past Plainfield
Old Lyme — Anna Bussman scored two goals and added an assist in Old Lyme’s 5-2 win over Plainfield in high school girls’ soccer action on Wednesday.
Vivian Boller, Olivia Lovendale and Mia Bonatti also had goals for the Wildcats, who improved to 2-1-1 overall. Kathleen Walsh and Kaela Hoss each had an assist.
Rachel Popiet and Keriana Heredia scored for Plainfield.
In other games:
• Emily McKelvey had two goals to lift Lyman Memorial past Norwich Tech 5-0. Isabelle Nowosad, Avery Volle and Tesla Andrews-Kowal also had goals for the Bulldogs (4-1) and Andrews-Kowal, Bridey LaFleur and Volle had assists. Phoebe Carpenter needed three saves for the shutout. Diana Kozerefski made 12 saves for Norwich Tech.
• Victoria Falkenstein scored two goals to help lift the Williams School to a 4-1 season-opening win over the Watkinson School. Sarah Harvey and Marlee Anselmi also had goals for the Blues while Brooke McLoughlin and Sophia Guinan added assists.
Boys’ soccer
• Williams School battled Watkinson School to a 0-0 tie in its season opener. Goalie Baker Katko made several saves to keep Watkinson off the scoreboard for the Blues.
• Dylan Dedominicis had a goal and an assist in Norwich Free Academy’s 2-1 victory Tuesday over Fitch. Distefano Manrique also had a goal for NFA and Kaiden Walsh made eight saves in goal for the win. Fitch goalie Will Haugeto made four saves.
• Ben Syphrett scored twice in St. Bernard’s 2-1 victory Tuesday over New London. Connor McWilliams and Aidan Cass each added an assist for the Saints. Fernando Hernandez scored for New London.
H.S. volleyball
• East Lyme outlasted Griswold 3-2 with game scores of 25-14, 21-25, 25-21, 12-25 and 15-10. Jordyn Skinner had 16 digs for the Vikings (2-1), Bella Diep 34 assists and Taylor Kachinsky six aces. Carly Rubino led Griswold (1-2) with 27 digs and a kill while Kierra Neilson had 16 kills, seven blocks and an ace and Bella Bruno added 28 assists, nine digs and an ace.
• Waterford swept Killingly 25-14, 25-12 and 25-18. Kayleigh Jones had eight assists for the Lancers (4-0) while Brielle Kenney had seven kills and five digs and Lucy Walker added six kills, three blocks and two aces.
• Dominique Sanchez had 31 digs and Bela Dec added seven kills and three blocks for Bacon Academy in a 3-0 shutout of Putnam. Game scores were 25-17, 25-15 and 25-18. Maddie Meyer had eight kills, eight digs and five aces for the Bobcats (3-1) while Bailey Handwerk and Emma Aivaliotis each had eight kills.
• NFA defeated Ledyard 25-20, 25-18 and 25-22. Stella Hogan had nine kills and five digs while Evalina Klyukin had six kills and Petra Berry added four kills and six blocks for the Wildcats (2-2). Lorelai England had six kills and Bella Schweitzer added seven kills for Ledyard (1-3).
• Mackenzie Payne had three assists and 12 assists in Montville’s 3-0 shutout of New London. Game scores were 25-17, 25-10, 25-13. Lizzie Maffeo had five kills and two aces for the Wolves (4-1). Alyse Manley had four digs, three points, two aces and two assists for New London (0-4) and Ka’Maya Little had four blocks, three digs, two aces and a kill.
• Emma Main had 18 assists for Fitch in a 3-1 loss to Woodstock Academy. The Falcons (1-4) won the first game 25-23 before dropping three close games, 25-21, 26-24, 25-22. Katie Virtue added 13 kills and Natalie Helme 12 digs for Fitch.
• Molly Boardman chipped in 12 digs for Old Lyme in a 3-0 loss at East Hampton in the Shoreline Conference. Game scores were 25-12, 25-19 and 25-20. Kaylyn Vernon had 11 assists and Maya LeQuire had six kills for the Wildcats (1-3).
College volleyball
• Connecticut College improved to 5-0 with a 3-0 sweep of Elms College in its home opener at Luce Field House. Game scores were 25-16, 25-18 and 25-8. Katherine Randall had a match-high nine kills on 18 swings while Zoe Watts and Mila Chan had five kills apiece for the Camels.
Women’s soccer
• Mitchell College goalie Gemma Landry made 17 saves in a 3-0 loss to Albertus Magnus in Great Northeast Conference action. The Mariners fell to 0-3, 0-3.
Boys’ cross country
• East Lyme’s Sam Leone finished first in 15 minutes, 25.36 seconds and the Vikings defeated Griswold (21-38) and Stonington (15-50) in a tri-meet Tuesday at Hopeville State Park. Jack Faitsch, Joey Papalia and Dylan Johnson finished third through fifth for East Lyme. Griswold’s Tycen LaBelle was second in 15:27.21. Stonington’s top finisher was Brady deCastro, 16th. Griswold also defeated Stonington 15-44.
• Christian Menounos (16:11) and Colton Sallum (16:46) finished 1-2 for Woodstock Academy in a 25-30 victory Tuesday over Ledyard. Ledyard was paced by Antonio Soldato and Greyson Stephenson, who finished third and fourth, respectively.
• Titus Olson won the meet in 16:48.1 to lift Waterford past Killingly 20-41. Michael Turner, Bronson Leone and Adam Balfour were third through fifth for the Lancers.
Girls’ cross country
• Led by Rachel Quadrato, East Lyme runners finished third through eighth Tuesday to sweep a meet against Stonington (25-33) and Griswold (15-45). Stonington also topped Griswold (23-44). Stonington’s Peyton Vanderstreet won the race in 20:12 and teammate Molly Musselman was second in 20:13. Griswold’s top finisher was Olivia Riley in ninth.
• Sophie Zichichi (22:33), Carissa Browne, Sophia Gouveia and Kylie Melia finished first through fourth Tuesday as Wheeler defeated Windham and Tourtellotte, each by a 15-50 margin.
