High school roundup: Bacon edges East Lyme in girls’ soccer
Colchester — Hannah Ferrigno scored the game’s only goal on an assist from Mia Hageman 9 minutes, 23 seconds into the second half Thursday to give the Bacon Academy girls’ soccer team a 1-0 victory over East Lyme.
Elizabeth Glover made five saves for Bacon (2-1-2) and Sam Rodes made six stops for East Lyme (4-1).
In other games:
• Adyson Wiseman had two goals and an assist for Waterford in a 5-0 win over Stonington, keeping the Lancers unbeaten at 4-0. Camryn Dickinson and Paige Jessuck each chipped in a goal and an assist and Charlotte Jessuck added a goal for Waterford. Victoria Sturm finished with seven saves in goal for her fourth shutout. Stonington is 0-4.
• Griswold defeated Wheeler 2-1 Wednesday, scoring on a penalty with nine minutes remaining. Sadie Riley scored a goal in the first half for Griswold, with Wheeler tying things at 1-1 on Hannah Viele’s third goal of the year, assisted by freshman Ella Post.
Boys’ soccer
• Colman Curtiss-Reardon, Ian Maeby and John Morosky each scored a goal in Old Lyme’s 3-0 victory over Westbrook in the Shoreline Conference. Elliot Dunn-Sims had an assist and Sam Edmed made two saves for the Wildcats (2-2, 2-1).
• Ben Syphrett scored three times in St. Bernard’s 7-1 win over Griswold in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division III matchup. Christian Tompkins had two goals and Mitchell Graul and Christian Lopez one goal each for the Saints (4-0-1, 2-0). Braden Weidner scored for Griswold (2-1, 0-1).
• Max Montejano finished with two goals and an assist in East Lyme’s 6-3 win over Woodstock Academy in the ECC Division I opener for the Vikings. Gabe Hanney, Garrison Biggs, Callaway Scott and Nicco Frogameni added goals for East Lyme (4-0, 1-0), Evan Mullarney had two assists and Oliver Lopez and Christian Wren combined for five saves in goal.
• Ben Dubicki had four saves for Waterford in a 2-1 win over Montville. The Lancers (2-2-1) scored twice in the second half on goals by Matt Allen and Alex Pina to erase a 1-0 deficit against the Wolves (1-1-2). Chris Baukus scored for Montville on an assist from Ryan Hochdorfer and Jayden Burrell finished with seven saves.
• Freshman Justin Portillo scored the first two goals of his career as Norwich Tech defeated Wilcox Tech 3-0 in the Connecticut Technical Conference. Roman McElwee also scored for the Warriors, assisted by Anthony Caisse. Norwich Tech is 1-1-1 overall, 1-1 in the league.
• Stouvenly Dortelus scored on an assist from Niko Churis in New London’s 1-1 tie with Killingly in ECC Division III. New London is 3-2 overall, 1-1 in the division. Jon Fitzgibbons scored for Killingly.
• Nick Zaprianov had a hat trick for Lyman Memorial, including two first-half goals, as the Bulldogs defeated Wheeler 5-1 in ECC Division IV. Matthew Kopplin and Cody Rahmann scored one goal each and James Hiltz had four saves for Lyman (1-1-1, 1-0). Wheeler’s David Levanto scored a goal 9:00 into the second half to pull the Lions within 2-1, but Lyman outscored them 3-0 the remainder of the game. Wyatt Hayes had an assist for Wheeler (1-3, 1-1).
Field hockey
• Audrey Steward had a goal and an assist to lead Waterford past Old Saybrook 2-0. Sarah Davidson also scored for the Lancers (4-1), who led 1-0 at halftime.
• Kate Erikson and Gracie Lloyd had three goals each for East Lyme in an 11-0 win over Norwich Free Academy in the ECC. Callan Keefe and Addison Kan added two goals each and Violet Maziarz scored once for the Vikings (2-2, 2-0). NFA is 0-5, 0-3.
Swimming
• Addison Fulling won the 50 freestyle (25.62) and the 100 backstroke (1:03.32) for the Fitch cooperative team in a 98-83 loss to Guilford. Jill Arcilla added a victory in the 100 breaststroke in 1:16.66 for the Falcons (1-1) and Jai-Lynn Wheeler (100 free, 200 free) and freshman Gabby Donnarummo (200 individual medley, 500 free) added seconds.
Volleyball
• Elsa Kalwara had 20 assists for Wheeler in a 3-0 victory over Grasso Tech. Addison Stanley added 12 kills and Abby Butremovic had 20 digs for Wheeler (2-2).
• Norwich Tech rallied from a 1-0 deficit to beat Ellis Tech 3-1 Wednesday in the Connecticut Technical Conference, winning by game scores of 24-26, 25-16, 25-20, 25-23. Autumn Hanks had five aces and seven digs for Norwich Tech (2-1, 2-0), while Abby Ulrich had six kills, five digs and two aces and Rose Johnny contributed nine assists and four aces.
