    Local roundup: Down 2-0, Coast Guard volleyball rallies for 3-2 victory over Conn

    New London — Amelia Watson and Eloise Shirley led Coast Guard with 10 kills apiece Saturday as the Bears defeated Connecticut College 10-25, 18-25, 25-17, 25-16 and 15-10 in women’s college volleyball.

    It was the first loss of the season for Conn (6-1), led by a season-high 44 assists from Josie Kelly and 23 digs from Katherine Randall. Coast Guard is 7-3.

    Earlier in the day, Conn defeated Worcester State 25-19, 25-11 and 25-19. Mila Chan led the Camels with a match-high 11 kills while Evie Lockwood Mullaney added nine. Kelly had 26 assists and Caroline Festersen 18 digs.

    College women’s soccer

    • Maya Griffin scored in the 85th minute assisted by Claire Mulvihill, and Conn College held on to beat Bowdoin 2-1 Saturday from Freeman Field. Ella Gazo also scored for the Camels (3-1 overall, 1-1 NESCAC), scoring off a rebound from her own penalty kick to give Conn a 1-0 lead at 53:37. Bowdoin’s Stephanie Christians tied the game with just over seven minutes remaining. Ella Kahrl made five saves for the Camels in the victory.

    College men’s soccer

    • Connecticut College played a scoreless tie against Bowdoin in a NESCAC matchup at Freeman Field. Conn is 2-1-1, 0-1-1. Peter Silvester needed just one save in goal for Conn (2-1-1, 0-1-1), which outshot Bowdoin 12-6.

    College field hockey

    • Elizabeth Bonner, Rowan Galanis and Bridget McGann scored goals for Connecticut College during a 5-3 loss to Bowdoin in NESCAC. Conn is 2-2, 0-2.

    H.S. volleyball

    • Cromwell defeated New London 25-18, 25-16, 25-17. Ky’Ani Allgood had five kills and Cashel Jones eight points for the Whalers (0-5).

    • Norwich Free Academy defeated Killingly 25-19, 25-11, 21-25, 25-15. Savannah Guernsey had 14 assists, Stella Hogan 15 digs and Evelina Klyukin 16 digs for the Wildcats (2-1-1).

    • Rose Johnny had seven assists and seven aces in Norwich Tech’s 25-19, 25-10, 25-14 Friday night over Cheney Tech. Nyomi Barboza had five kills and one ace for the Warriors (3-1) and Victoria Tirado five kills, two aces and an assist.

    H.S. football

    • Aidan Johnson threw three touchdown passes Friday night in Montville’s 35-28 nonconference loss to Lewis Mills. Johnson hit Dante Crisman, Arian Castillo and Izaiah Yard for TDs and Hector Aponte rushed for a score. The Montville defense registered a safety.
