Local roundup: Hageman leads Bacon past Stonington in boys’ soccer
Stonington -- Eddie Hageman scored in the 18th minute for the game’s only goal, lifting Bacon Academy past Stonington, 1-0, in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II boys’ soccer game on Tuesday.
JP Fougerouse assisted on the game-winning goal. Zach Carroll made eight saves for the Bobcats (3-1-1, 2-0).
The Bears fell to 3-3, 1-1.
In other games:
• Cole Bray scored off an assist from Distefano Manrique to help Norwich Free Academy tie Woodstock, 1-1, in Division I. The Wildcats are 1-1-2, 1-0-1.
• Niko Churis scored two goals and added three assists in New London’s 7-0 win over Griswold in Division III. Stouvenly Dortelus scored two goals while Jorge Almendarez, Thierry Lordilia and Yovany Duenas Sanchez each added one for the Whalers (3-2-1, 1-1-1) and Oscar Amaya recorded the shutout in goal. The Wolverines dropped to 3-2, 0-2.
• Ben Syphrett scored two goals and Aidan Cass and Mitchell Graul added one apiece in St. Bernard’s 4-2 win over Montville in Division III. The first place Saints are 5-0-1, 3-0. Elijah Klusek scored two goals for the Wolves (1-2-2, 0-1-1).
• Zach D’Auito and Callaway Scott each had a goal in East Lyme’s 3-0 shutout of Windham in Division I. Garrison Biggs and Evan Mullarney each added an assist and Ollie Lopez made six saves for the Vikings (5-0-1, 2-0), whose third score came on an own goal.
• Justin Portillo’s unassisted goal propelled Norwich Tech past Grasso Tech, 1-0, in a CTC game. The Warriors climbed to 2-1-1, 2-1, and the Eagles are 1-4-1 overall.
Girls’ soccer
• Mia Bonnati contributed a goal and an assist for Old Lyme in a 2-1 win over Old Saybrook in the Shoreline Conference. Brooke Burgess also scored for the Wildcats (4-2, 3-0) and goalie Olivia Kelly had 13 saves.
• Grasso Tech lost to HMTCA, 3-0, to drop to 2-3 overall. Trocari Griffin-McCalop scored two goals for the winners.
H.S. field hockey
• Kate Erikson and Gracie Lloyd scored goals in East Lyme’s 2-0 win over Killingly in the ECC. Callan Keefe added an assist for the Vikings (3-2, 3-0).
• Marina Lewandowski had two goals and Anna Lettiere chipped in two goals and two assists in Stonington’s 8-1 win over Waterford in the ECC. Emily Obrey, Bailey Simmons, Shay Burnside and Misha Lewandowski also scored for the Bears (4-1, 3-0). Katie Jamroga had an unassisted goal for the Lancers (4-2, 2-1).
H.S. swimming
• Sarah O’Donnell finished first in the 200 freestyle in 2 minutes, 14.08 seconds and 500 freestyle (5:59.52) while Seidi Schiro won the 50 freestyle (27.86) in Ledyard/St. Bernard’s 93-76 loss to the Shoreline co-op. Luna Nunez took first in the diving competition and Thelma Grogan won the 100 breaststroke (1:33.99) while Anna Kate O’Donnell won the 200 IM (2:37.38) and 100 butterfly (1:12.54) for Ledyard (0-3).
H.S. volleyball
• Abby Butremovic had 30 digs and Anna Barber added 10 service points and eight digs for Wheeler in a 3-1 win over Ellis Tech. The Lions improved to 3-2.
• Montville beat Killingly 3-2 on Monday. Mackenzie Payne had 20 assists and seven digs, Alyna Ovalles had 15 digs and three aces, Liz Maffeo had eight kills and Kayla Terni had six kills and two aces for the Wolves (5-2).
• Bacon Academy beat Ledyard 3-1 on Monday, winning 20-25, 25-13, 25-19, 25-14. Dominique Sanchez had 30 digs and four aces, Maddie Meyer had 12 kills and four aces, Julia Cavaliere had 10 kills, Bailey Handwerk had 13 kills and Jillain Snow had 18 assists for the Bobcats (4-2). Nora Gambardella had seven kills, Faith Dalton 16 assists and six aces, Bella Schweitzer had six kills and four aces, Alana Brewer had five kills and Shiloe McKeon had seven digs for the Colonels (1-3).
• Norwich Tech blanked Windham Tech in a Connecticut Technical Conference match on Monday, winning 25-16, 25-23, 25-18. Nyomi Barboza had 10 kills and six aces, Rose Johnny had 15 assists and Olivia Luurtsema had eight assists, seven digs, five aces and four kills for the Warriors (4-1, 4-0).
College volleyball
• Connecticut College improved to 7-1 overall with a 3-0 sweep of University of Saint Joseph (Conn.). Game scores were 25-12, 25-14 and 25-12. Mila Chan had a match-high nine kills for the Camels and Josie Kelly had five kills and 20 assists.
College women’s soccer
• Mitchell College lost by shutout for the fourth straight game, falling to Elms College, 2-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action. Goalie Gemma Landry made nine saves for the Mariners (0-4, 0-4).
College men’s soccer
• Dylan Lucey (Lyman Memorial) scored his first goal of the season in Mitchell College’s 4-1 loss to Johnson & Wales in GNAC action. Jesse Jenkins had 10 saves for the Mariners (0-4-1, 0-3).
