H.S. cross country: Ledyard tops NFA in key ECC Div. I girls’ meet
Norwich — Maggie Littler, Katie Littler and Kaitlyn Sweeney finished second, third and fourth, respectively, to pace Ledyard past Norwich Free Academy, 26-29, in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I girls’ cross country meet on Tuesday.
Maggie Littler finished in 20 minutes, 52 seconds, followed by Katie Littler (21:42) and Sweeney (21:43).
Karina Chan took first in a school record time of 19:12 for the Wildcats (4-1, 1-1). Helen Muenche was fifth (21:47).
In other meets:
• East Lyme’s Rachel Quadrato (22:45), Lauren Fulcher (22:46), Maya D’Aquila (23:02) and Katy Wren (23:03) captured the top four spots in a 18-38 win over Fitch in an ECC Division I race at Haley Farm in Groton. The Vikings climbed to 4-0 overall, 2-0 in the conference. Colbie Synhorst placed fifth (23:40) for the Falcons (0-4, 0-3).
• Stonington defeated Wheeler, 23-32, and Killingly, 15-50, in an ECC Division II race. Wheeler beat Killingly, 15-50. Peyton Vanderstreet (20:25) and Molly Musselman (20:26) took first and second, respectively, for the Bears (3-3, 3-0). Sophie Zichchi was the top finisher for the Lions (5-1, 1-1), placing third in 22:51.
Boys
• Sean McCauley crossed the finish line in a winning time of 17:18 and teammates Jilali Benjdid (17:19) took second, pacing East Lyme past Fitch, 22-37, in an ECC Division I race. The Vikings improved to 4-0 overall, 2-0 in the conference. Julien Silva took third (17:19) for the Falcons (1-3, 0-3).
• Wheeler’s Trevor Scarchilli was the overall individual winner in 18:40, leading the Lions (5-1, 2-0) past Killingly, 22-36, and Stonington, 28-28 (via a tiebreaker) in ECC Division II. Brady deCastro finished second (19:28) for Stonington (1-5, 1-2), which also beat Killingly, 21-34.
• Griswold knocked off Bacon Academy, 18-37, in an ECC Division II race at Hopeville State Park. Tycen LaBelle took first in 16:35 for the Wolverines (3-2, 3-0) while Sean Silva was second (16:36) and Dylan Bailey third (16:48). Boden Paul placed fourth (17:01) for the Bobcats (1-3, 1-1).
