H.S. soccer roundup: New London boys top Montville
New London — New London beat Montville 3-1 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division III boys’ soccer game on Thursday.
Niko Churis and Yovani Duenas Sánchez had a goal and an assist each, Erlin Almendarez had a goal, Jorge Almendarez had an assist and Oscar Amaya made six saves for the Whalers (4-3-2, 2-1-1). Chris Baukus scored, Ryan Hochdorfer had an assist and Jayden Burrell and Logan Leonard combined for 10 saves for Montville (2-4-2, 0-2-1).
In other games:
• Carson Luther snapped a 1-1 tie in the 33rd minute and Ledyard went on to beat Stonington 3-1 in an ECC Division II game. Luther added another goal three minutes later for the Colonels (3-2-3, 1-1-2). Sean O’Brien had a goal, Paulo Templeton made seven saves and Ben Crowe had an assist for Ledyard. Sean Durham scored and Landon Pelletier had an assist for the Bears (4-5, 1-2).
• Callaway Scott had a goal and an assist as East Lyme beat Fitch 3-0 in an ECC Division I game. Max Montejano and Evan Mullarney scored goals, Teagan Dunne and Caleb Trost had assists and Oliver Lopez made three saves for the Vikings (8-0-1, 4-0). Gabe Cook made 10 saves for Fitch (1-8-1, 0-4).
• Roman McElwee scored three times and Norwich Tech defeated Cheney Tech, 6-3, in a Connecticut Technical Conference game. Justin Portillo and Angel Stimson added a goal and an assist apiece for Norwich Tech (6-1-1, 5-1) and Dimitri Toromanidis had an assist.
• Waterford and Bacon Academy tied 2-2 in an ECC Division II game. Ethan Stelik and and Matthew Allen scored for Waterford (3-2-4, 0-1-2) and Ben Dubicki made four saves. Troy Johnson and Eddie Hageman scored goals, JP Fougerouse had an assist and Zach Carroll made eight saves for Bacon (3-1-4, 2-0-2).
• Hernan Hernandez scored twice and Windham defeated Norwich Free Academy, 2-0, in an ECC Division I game. The Wildcats are 2-3-2, 1-2-1.
• Cody Rahmann scored off a penalty kick and also assisted on J.P. Florian’s goal to help Lyman Memorial shut out Plainfield 2-0 in an ECC Division IV game. James Hiltz collected four saves for the Bulldogs (4-2-3, 4-0-0 ECC Div. IV).
Girls
• Kate Walsh scored two goals and Old Lyme blanked Haddam-Killingworth, 2-0, in a Shoreline Conference game. Olivia Kelly made three saves for the Wildcats (6-3, 5-1).
• Ladleigh Hargus and Clare Delabry scored two goals each as Stonington beat Killingly/Tourtellotte 6-0 on Wednesday night. Eva Terwilliger had three assists, Madison Hubbard and Finn O’Keefe scored goals and Quinn Higginbotham, Adilyn Risley and Gwen McGugan had assists for the Bears (3-4) and Payton Stone has her second straight shutout.
• Norwich Tech beat Grasso Tech 4-0 in a CTC game on Wednesday. Gracie Hendrick, Aniya Gibbons and Elenor Flores scored for the Warriors (3-4), who also had an own goal. Grasso is 2-5.
