    Local roundup: Griswold sweeps Waterford in volleyball

    Griswold — Kierra Neilson (15) and Abby Matheson combined for 29 kills as Griswold beat Waterford 3-0 in volleyball on Friday.

    The Wolverines won 25-20, 25-23, 25-22. Bella Bruno had 34 asssts, six digs and two aces, Carly Rubino had 15 digs, Neilson had three blocks, five digs and an ace and Matheson had 16 digs and an ace for Griswold (7-2).

    Lyra DeAngelis had four aces and 12 digs, Jennie Macca-Barnes had 11 kills and 11 digs and Mia Majeski had 10 assists and four digs for Waterford (7-3).

    In other matches:

    • Fitch beat NFA 3-2. Katie Virtue had 20 kills, Abby Malone had 10 kills and 12 digs, Emma Main had 20 assists and Natalie Helme had 20 digs for Fitch (5-7), which won 25-19, 28-26, 16-25, 20-25, 16-14. NFA is 4-7.

    • Wheeler beat Plainfield 3-0. Addison Stanley had eight kills and six blocks, Anna Barber had 10 service points and 11 digs and Abby Butremovic had 23 digs for the Lions (8-2).

    • Old Lyme lost to East Hampton 3-0 in a Shoreline Conference match. Kaylyn Vernon had 11 assists, Maya LeQuire had eight kills and Molly Boardman had nine digs for Old Lyme (2-9, 2-9), which lost 13-25, 19-25, 13-25.

    • Norwich Tech remained unbeaten in the Connecticut Technical Conference with a 3-1 win over Grasso Tech on Thursday. Abby Ulrich had eight kills, three blocks, three digs and four aces, Victoria Tirado had six kills and seven aces and Olivia Luurtsema had 12 assists and five aces for the Warriors (7-2, 7-0), who won 26-24, 22-25, 25-9, 25-11.

    H.S. boys’ soccer

    • Henry Champagne scored three goals as Williams School beat Oxford 4-0. Henry Gallagher also scored a goal, Marek Soboleski had an assist and Baker Katko recorded a shutout for the Blues (1-4-1).

    • Wheeler beat Parish Hill 5-0 in a nonleague game. Drew Deary, Wyatt Hayes, Jack Dowrey, David Levanto and Brodey Pappas scored for the Lions (5-5).

    • Old Lyme lost to Haddam-Killingworth 2-0 in a Shoreline Conference game. Tristen Edwards and Phin Merriam scored for HK. Old Lyme (2-7-1, 2-4-1) lost to Valley Regional 6-2 on Wednesday. Colman Curtiss-Reardon had a goal and an assist and Brenden Landry scored a goal for the Wildcats.

    H.S. girls’ soccer

    • Grasso Tech lost to Wolcott Tech 9-4 in a CTC game. Kylee Morrison and Giana Martinez scored two goals each for Grasso (2-6). Kendall Contadini scored all nine goals for Wolcott.

    H.S. swimming

    • East Lyme beat Ledyard/St. Bernard 95-67 in an ECC meet. Ruby Thoms. Julia Morcos and Ella Pape won two events each for the Vikings. Thoms won the 200 freestyle (2:14.64) and 400 freestyle (5:56.05), Morcos won the 200 IM (2:27.36) and 100 butterfly (1:06.96) and Pape won the 50 freestyle (25.97) and 100 backstroke (1:09.83).

    Elsie Jacobitz also won an event for East Lyme (4-1, 3-1) and Thelma Grogan and Ashlyn Obermeyer won events for Ledyard/St. Bernard (1-5, 1-3).

    • The Fitch co-op beat Hand 88-80 in a nonleague meet. Fitch’s Anna Orphanides and Stonington’s Addison Fulling won two events each. Orphanides won the 100 butterfly (1:03.12) and 100 backstroke (1:04.90) and Fulling won the 100 freestyle (56.68) and 200 freestyle (2:03.51).

    Stonington’s Jai-Lynn Wheeler also won an event and was on the winning 200 freestyle relay team with Kaitlyn Kumpf, Haley Singer and Fulling for Fitch (4-1).

    H.S. football

    • Jamel Kearse Jr. ran for two touchdowns as Ledyard remained unbeaten with a 44-0 win over Bacon Academy/Lyman Memorial on Thursday night. Kearse rushed for 210 yards on nine carries and had scoring runs of 26 and 27 yards. Calvin Casavant gained 165 yards on nine carries including a 39-yard touchdown run.

    Jackson Hayward, Diego Rosario-Gonzalez and Collin Rhodes also had touchdown runs for the Colonels (3-0). Bacon/Lyman is 0-3.
