    H.S. football: NFA holds on to beat Fairfield Warde

    Norwich — Norwich Free Academy picked up its first win of the season, beating Fairfield Warde 33-32 on Friday night.

    The Wildcats (1-2) scored a pair of touchdown in the fourth quarter to take a 33-26 lead. Jayden Croxton caught a 9-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Driscoll with 3:22 left in the game and Wyatt Woodcock intercepted a pass and returned it 72 yards for a touchdown with 1:10 left.

    Warde scored a touchdown with 39.2 seconds left to get within a point. Warde attempted a 2-point conversion for the win but failed.

    Jha’Meer Quinn-Haskins had a 70-yard touchdown run, Ryan Cleary had a 40-yard touchdown run and Ruseean Clahar caught a 48-yard touchdown pass from Driscoll for NFA.

    In other games:

    • Chase Spurley ran for three touchdowns and passed for two more as Stonington beat Quinebaug Valley 45-19 on Friday night.

    Stonington (2-1) led 8-6 at halftime on a Spurley TD run and a 2-point conversion by Christian McGugan before opening it up in the second half.

    Spurley threw touchdown passes to Austin Center and McGugan and Jacob Schrage returned an interception 55 yards for a score. Cooper Light blocked a punt and had a 2-point conversion and Maddox Massengale also scored a 2-point conversion.

    • East Lyme picked up its first win of the season, beating Branford 17-0 on Friday night. Jacob Garro threw touchdown passes to Greg Paige and Jayden Brown and Finn Bruno kicked a 37-yard field goal for the Vikings (1-2).

    • Porter Carter’s 9-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter lifted Fitch to an 18-15 win over Simsbury. Carter also had a 3-yard touchdown run and rushed for 91 yards on 19 carries. Anthony Spader had a touchdown run and Sean Bussey gained 89 yards on 14 carries for the Falcons (1-2) and Michael El Khoury intercepted two passes.

    • Windham beat Griswold/Wheeler 49-36 on Friday. The Whippets (3-0) led 28-14 after three quarters. Asael García Rodríguez rushed for 175 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries. Dashawn Chapman had 136 yards and a TD on seven carries, Julian Cruz scored three touchdowns and rushed for 110 yards and Darien Jenkins ran for a tochdown and passed for another. Aeden Cutter scored four touchdowns for Griswold/Wheeler (1-2).
