Local roundup: Lancers, Bears advance to ECC Division I girls’ soccer semis
Waterford — Paige Jessuck scored two goals and Camryn Dickinson added a goal and an assist as third-seeded Waterford High School topped No. 6 Ledyard 4-1 in Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I tournament quarterfinal girls’ soccer action on Thursday.
Ellie Briggs scored her first career goal for the Lancers (13-1-3). Annalise Girard, Adyson Wiseman and Anna Waddington each added an assist.
Waterford will play at No. 2 Woodstock Academy in Saturday’s semifinals.
Maggie Dykes scored directly from a corner kick for Ledyard (7-8-2). Goalie Jess Dudley had 13 saves.
In other games:
• Madison Hubbard scored the game’s only goal off an assist from Eva Terwilliger to propel No. 4 Stonington past No. 5 East Lyme 1-0 in an ECC Division I tournament quarterfinal. Goalie Payton Stone recorded the shutout for the Bears (11-5). East Lyme fell to 6-8-3. Stonington will play at No. 1 Bacon Academy in the semifinals on Saturday.
• No. 5 Windham advanced in the ECC Division II tournament by beating No. 4 Wheeler in a penalty kick shootout (4-2) in the quarterfinals. The two teams battled to a scoreless tie through overtime. Lily White made several big saves to keep the Lions (6-8-2) in the game. Windham will play at No. 1 Montville Saturday in the semifinals.
• Keriana Heredia scored five goals to power No. 3 Plainfield past No. 6 Griswold 8-0 in an ECC Division II tournament quarterfinal. The Panthers will play in the semifinals Saturday against No. 2 Lyman Memorial.
• Old Lyme was eliminated in the Shoreline Conference quarterfinals, falling to Old Saybrook 2-0. The Wildcats are 6-7-4 overall.
• Marlee Anselmi had three goals and an assist as Williams School beat Westover 5-0 on Wednesday. Claire Butler had a goal and an assist, Julia Cote scored and Skylar Raymond had an assist for the Blues (10-1-2).
H.S. boys’ soccer
• John Fitzgibbons scored two goals to power fifth-seeded Killingly past No. 4 Wheeler 3-0 in ECC Division II tournament quarterfinal action. Goalie Trent Pichie made six saves for Killingly (7-5-3). The Lions fell to 9-8.
H.S. volleyball
• Griswold won its 17th straight match, beating Coventry 3-1 on Wednesday to finish off its regular season. Kierra Neilson had 17 kills and 11 blocks, Abby Matheson had 12 kills and 15 digs, Bella Bruno had 31 assists and 13 digs and Carly Rubino had 18 digs for the Wolverines (18-2), who won 21-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-20.
H.S. cross country
• Williams School competed at the Eagle Hill Invitational on Wednesday. The boys’ team was led by Jadiel Thomas in third place and Mack Rodgers in fifth. Alexa Pesarik led the girls’ team.

• Tryouts will be held for the Waterford American Legion Spring/Summer 13-15 baseball team. They will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2 and Sunday, Nov. 3 at the Waterford Babe Ruth Field. Teams will play a mix of travel games / tournaments and an American Legion schedule.
