    Local roundup: Lancers reach quarterfinals in Class L girls’ soccer

    Waterford — Camryn Dickinson and Paige Jessuck each had two goals and an assist to lift the second-ranked Waterford High School girls’ soccer team past No. 15 East Catholic 4-1 in the second round of the Class L state tournament Monday.

    Waterford (14-2-3) advanced to Thursday’s quarterfinals to meet No. 7 Sacred Heart Academy.

    “Massive effort versus a very talented East Catholic team. Really proud of the team,” Waterford coach Chris Ghiglia said.

    Waterford took the lead in first half on a goal by Dickinson assisted by Jessuck and Dickinson made it 2-0 on a free kick with 28 minutes remaining in the second half.

    East Catholic pulled within one on a goal by Anya Tansil, but Jessuck struck twice within a two-minute span for the final margin. Jessuck’s goals were assisted by Adyson Wiseman and Dickinson and Victoria Sturm made 10 saves for the Lancers.

    In other games:

    • Becca Ziegler scored and Phoebe Carpenter made 18 saves for No. 4 Lyman Memorial in a 3-1 loss to No. 20 Lauralton Hall in the second round of the Class S tournament. All the goals were scored in the first half. Lyman Memorial finished 14-4-1 with an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II tournament title.

    H.S. field hockey

    • Kate Erikson scored three times for seventh-seeded East Lyme in a 6-3 victory over No. 10 Avon in the first round of the Class M tournament. Sophia Gibson added a goal and two assists and Gracie Lloyd and Mia Lloyd also had goals for East Lyme (15-4). The Vikings will meet the winner of Tuesday night’s game between No. 2 Guilford and No. 15 Waterford in Thursday’s quarterfinals.

    H.S. volleyball

    • Bella Bruno had 25 assists, 10 digs and four aces as No. 5 Griswold blanked No. 28 Ellington 28-26, 25-16, 25-18 in the first round of the Class M tournament. Kierra Neilson had nine kills, seven blocks, one ace and one assist, Abby Matheson had nine kills, eight digs and two aces and Rebecca Marsh six kills, five digs and three aces for Griswold (20-3), which will take on No. 21 East Hampton in the second round Wednesday.

    • No. 8 Waterford advanced to the second round of the Class M tournament with a 25-12, 25-19, 25-19 first-round victory over No. 25 Tolland. Danica Agsalud finished with 18 assists, two aces, two kills and two digs, Brielle Kenney seven kills, two aces and eight digs, Jennie Macca-Barnes six aces, 11 kills and 12 digs and Ava Majeski eight digs for the Lancers (15-8), who will meet No. 9 Foran at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Waterford.

    • Addison Stanley had 13 kills and five aces for No. 6 Wheeler in a 25-13, 25-9, 25-14 win over No. 27 University in the first round of the Class S tournament. Morgyn Perkins added 14 service points with six digs, four kills and one ace, Elsa Kalwara finished with 21 assists and Abby Butremovic had 13 digs for Wheeler (17-6), which moved on to meet No. 11 Wolcott Tech in the second round Wednesday.

    • Rose Johnny had 20 assists and five digs and No. 15 Norwich Tech came back from a two-game deficit to beat No. 18 Aerospace 19-25, 15-25, 25-11, 25-18, 15-6 in the first round of the Class S tournament. Abby Ulrich added 11 kills and one block, Kristen Romanski 10 kills and three blocks, Nyomi Barboza 10 kills and seven aces and Autumn Hanks 10 digs for the Warriors (15-9), who will meet No. 2 Valley Regional in the second round Wednesday.

    • Emma Main had 18 assists for No. 16 Fitch in a 25-18, 25-20, 23-25, 28-26 loss to No. 17 Wilbur Cross in the first round of the Class LL tournament. CoCo Vicente had five aces and eight digs for Fitch (10-12) and Katie Virtue 12 kills.

    College honors

    • Connecticut College goalie Peter Silvester was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Player of the Week in men’s soccer. Silvester, a senior, had 14 saves in two games. He made four saves against Wesleyan in the regular-season finale and a career-high 10 saves during regulation and extra time and a win over Amherst in the NESCAC tournament quarterfinals.
