    Local roundup: Blues advance to HVAL soccer title game

    Waterford — The Williams School girls’ soccer team advanced to the Housatonic Valley Athletic League championship game Wednesday with a 4-1 win over Christian Heritage.

    The Blues (12-1-2) play the Harvey School at home Saturday in the finals.

    Skylar Raymond scored two goals for the Blues.

    H.S. volleyball

    • No. 5 Griswold advanced in the Class M Tournament with a 25-14, 25-20, 25-15 win over No. 21 East Hampton. Kierra Neilson had 12 kills, Abby Matheson 14 kills and Bella Bruno 34 assists for the Wolverines (21-3), who will face No. 4 Joel Barlow in Friday’s quarterfinal round.

    • No. 2 Valley Regional eliminated No. 15 Norwich Tech, 25-6, 25-14, 25-12 in Class S. Nyomi Barboza had four kills for Norwich Tech (15-10).

    • No. 6 Wheeler advanced to the Class S quarterfinals with a 25-13, 25-11, 25-13 win over No. 11 Wolcott Tech. Morgyn Perkins had 14 service points, Allison Needham had seven aces, Abby Butremovic had 20 digs and Elsa Kalwara 21 assists for the Lions (18-6), who will travel to play at No. 3 Lauralton Hall in Friday’s quarterfinal round.

    • No. 8 Waterford advanced in Class M with a 25-17, 25-22, 25-18 win over No. 9 Foran. Danica Agsalud had 32 assists, Brielle Kenney 10 digs, Jennifer Macca Barnes 14 kills and 15 digs and Ava Majeski 19 digs for the Lancers (16-8). Waterford will play in the quarterfinals Friday at No. 1 Seymour.

    Men’s soccer

    • Cole Miller scored in overtime to lift No. 3 Coast Guard to a 3-2 win over No. 6 Emerson in the first round of the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference tournament on Tuesday. The Bears (12-5-2) play at No. 2 Salve Regina in the semifinals at 7 p.m. Thursday.

    Miller took a pass from Jack Lopez and scored in the 93rd minute. Aki Freeman scored once in each half for Coast Guard, Andres Villasana had an assist and John Putnam made two saves.
