Six high school football teams from the region and five overall from the Eastern Connecticut Conference qualified for the state playoffs Thursday.

New London (Class M), Killingly, Windham, Waterford and Ledyard (Class SS), Valley Regional/Old Lyme (Class S) will play in the quarterfinals Tuesday night.

The Whalers qualified as the No. 8 seed in Class M, making the postseason for the first time since 2016. They’ll play at No. 1 Hand in a rematch of the season opener for both schools (Hand won, 36-14).

ECC schools compose half of the Class SS field, including an all-ECC quarterfinal of No. 7 Ledyard at No. 2 Windham. No. 5 Waterford missed a home game by 15 playoff points, instead traveling to No. 4 Bullard Havens of Bridgeport, with the winner playing a potential semifinal at No. 1 Killingly.

Valley/Old Lyme, by virtue of its win Tuesday night over Haddam-Killingworth, earned the No. 7 seed in Class S and will play at No. 2 Ansonia.

All quarterfinal games begin at 6:30 p.m.
