Flock Theatre stages ‘Peer Gynt’ in Westerly

Flock Theatre will perform "Peer Gynt" by Henrik Ibsen this weekend in Wilcox Park in Westerly.

"Peer Gynt" is a fantastical play that follows the brash and insatiable Peer as he travels from the Norwegian mountains to the African deserts and back searching for himself. Trolls, reindeer rides, strange beings, and more abound in this epic, which is based on Norwegian folklore. Audiences may recognize the play from the famous “In the Hall of the Mountain King” music composed by Edvard Grieg, inspired by Peer’s interaction with the Troll King.

Flock has adapted the original play, which traditionally runs very long, to be an under-two-hour performance.

Performances are at 7 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. Admission is free, but donations are accepted.

"Peer Gynt" is directed by Derron Wood and Victor Chiburis.

The cast features Eric Michaelian, Linda Loy, Courtney Leivers, Brian Olsen, Sarah Paprocki, Bill Steinmayer, Jon Wenc, Alyssa Christian, Kali Therrien, Julie Morrison, Kyijong Tenzin, and Ian Hopkins.
