Malnourished dog in need of vet attention found tied up, abandoned in Plainfield

A malnourished dog in need of medical treatment was found tied up and abandoned in Plainfield on Wednesday afternoon.

The animal, a female German Shepherd, was taken to the local dog pound after authorities received a report around 5 p.m. that it was abandoned and tied up to a gate using a horse lead on Olearos Hill Road in the Moosup section of town, according to the Plainfield Police Department.

Police said the dog was malnourished and in need of a visit to a veterinarian. The medical treatment required for the animal was described as “not urgent,” according to police.

Police said a witness reported seeing a man who appeared in his 70s dropping the dog off. The man was driving a newer model black SUV with what appeared to be a foreign front license plate, according to police.

“The front plate was described as having a black dot on each side of the plate,” police wrote in a statement, adding that it was possibly a European-style plate.

Police are investigating and asking the public for information about the dog or its owner.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact the Plainfield Police Department at (860) 564-0804.
