Gov. Ned Lamont this past weekend doled out some debate advice to his gubernatorial counterpart, Minnesota's Tim Walz, ahead of the first and only scheduled vice presidential candidate debate on Tuesday.

"I think he's just got to put the human face on the Harris-Walz policies," Lamont said during an appearance on NewsNation's "The Hill Sunday."

"A big emphasis upon small business and startups and innovation, you know as opposed to the big business orientation on the other side," Lamont said. "What they're doing for the middle class to raise people up, give people an opportunity to own their own home and own their own business. I think that he'll tell that story and he'll tell it well."

Lamont was an early and vocal supporter of Walz's selection as Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate after she ascended to the top of the Democratic ticket earlier this summer.

The two men serve together as members of the Democratic Governors Association, which Walz chaired until stepping down to join the campaign.

Lamont said he believed voters will appreciate aspects of Walz's biography, such as being a teacher, high school football coach and National Guardsman, that show he "actually had a life before politics."

Walz will debate Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance, who served in the Marine Corps, graduated Yale Law School and wrote a best-selling memoir prior to his election to the Senate in 2022.
