Nearly 250 crashes, 16 DUI arrests in Conn. so far over Thanksgiving holiday, state police say

Connecticut State Police have been dealing with an increased number of crashes so far during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend compared to the same period last year, data shows.

Troopers responded to 244 crashes from 12 a.m. Wednesday to 8 a.m. Friday, state police said, compared to 204 crashes during the same period last year, the data shows.

The number of arrests for operating under the influence remained fairly steady, with 16 so far this year compared to 14 last year. The number of calls for service also increased slightly, with 2,609 this year versus 2,592 last year.

There were 16 injuries, with one serious injury, as a result of the crashes this year, the data showed. State police conducted a total of 509 traffic stops this year and provided 177 traffic-related services including debris removal and helping with disabled or hazardous motor vehicles, state police said.

State police earlier this week urged motorists to not drive under the influence and to obey all traffic laws during the holiday weekend. They added that troopers would have an increased presence on roads and highways to patrol and keep everyone safe.
