Uber driver impostor who sexually assaulted woman sentenced
NEW HAVEN — A Connecticut man who sexually assaulted a woman in his car while posing as a driver for a ride-hailing service has been sentenced to four years in prison.
The New Haven Register reports that prosecutors said Ahmad Bahjat assaulted a woman who had left a New Haven bar in January 2016 and went to a parking lot designated for Uber cars and taxis.
He then fled the country, but was detained attempting to re-enter the country in New York.
Prosecutors say they found evidence in Bahjat's car including the victim's belongings linking him to the assault.
Bahjat was sentenced under a plea deal.
The attorney for the 31-year-old Bahjat, an Iraqi refugee, says his client will probably be deported to Iraq after serving his sentence.
