Police still searching for Windham shooting, stabbing suspect

WINDHAM — Police this morning are still searching for the suspect who reportedly stabbed and shot an Uncasville man in a Windham apartment Tuesday evening.

Connecticut State Police said they are looking for the suspect who fled the scene of the incident Tuesday evening at Briarwood Apartments.

“At this time, there are no updates to that investigation,” said state police spokesman Trooper Josue Dorelus. “We are still looking for the suspect.”

According to police, Antonio Elci, 33, of Uncasville, was injured inside an apartment building.

State police responded to Briarwood, located at 277 Brick Top Road in Windham, at about 8:30 p.m.

There, responding troopers from the state police Troop K barracks in Colchester located Elci, who was believed to have been shot.

Investigators discovered the man sustained both a gunshot wound and a stab wound.

Only Elci was hurt in the attack, according to state police.

According to Willimantic Fire Chief Marc Scrivener, his department was the transporting unit for the incident, but he said he could not release any information on the incident.

According to state police, the victim was transported to Windham Community Memorial Hospital via ambulance and subsequently transported to Hartford Hospital via Life Star.

Police said Wednesday that the victim was in stable condition.

Dorelus said this morning he was unaware whether the patient is still in the hospital.

Matt Clyburn of Hartford Hospital said today the hospital does not have Elci in its directory.

Clyburn said that usually means the patient was admitted and then released, admitted and transferred or, possibly, chose to opt out of the directory.

According to police, the suspect was known to the victim, but has not yet been located.

Police did not provide information on whether the suspect fled in a certain vehicle.

“It appeared to be an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public,” state police wrote in a criminal information summary provided Wednesday. Police are continuing to question witnesses, gather evidence on scene and are still actively searching for the suspect.

Anybody with any information who could aid police in locating the suspect is asked to contact Troop K in Colchester at 860-465-5400.
