UConn's Adams questionable for Wednesday's game at East Carolina

UConn sophomore Jalen Adams is still recovering from a moderate left ankle sprain suffered late in the first half of Saturday's loss to No. 14 Southern Methodist.

Whether Adams plays in Wednesday's important American Athletic Conference game at East Carolina will depend on how he responds to treatment. The starting point guard's playing status will be a game time decision, according to UConn officials.

X-rays taken after the SMU game showed no significant damage.

Adams, the team's leading scorer (14.6 points) and league leader in assists at 6.6 per game, didn't practice on Monday. The Huskies were off on Sunday.

With two regular-season games to go, UConn (14-14, 9-7) is still in contention for one of five first-round byes in the AAC tournament that runs March 9-12 at the XL Center in Hartford. The Huskies, who have dropped two straight, are in fifth place.

SMU, Cincinnati and Houston already have clinched a bye. UConn, Central Florida (19-10, 10-7) Memphis (18-11, 8-8) and Tulsa (14-14, 8-8) are battling for the last two spots.
