UConn men's basketball team pauses activities again due to COVID-19
The UConn men's basketball team has paused team activities for a second time due to a positive COVID-19 test in the program.
Hearst Connecticut Media first reported the news on Sunday.
UConn's previous shutdown started Nov. 5 due to a player testing positive and lasted 14 days. The Huskies returned to practice Nov. 19, six days before playing their season opener.
UConn announced the positive test on Sunday night and that it has postponed Friday's Big East opener at home against St. John's.
The school's release stated that "per university protocol, team activities will remain on hold until contact tracing and additional testing is completed and it is deemed safe by medical professionals to resume."
UConn's next scheduled game is next Sunday at Georgetown. The Huskies are supposed to visit Providence on Dec. 17 and then host Creighton on Dec. 20.
The Huskies (3-0) had two non-conference games canceled last week by their opponents — Vanderbilt on Tuesday and North Carolina State on Saturday — for COVID-19 reasons. They beat USC Thursday at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
So now they've played as many games as they've had either postponed or canceled.
