UConn basketball teams to play in Never Forget Tribute Classic

The UConn basketball programs will take part in the fifth annual Never Forget Tribute Classic on Saturday, Dec. 11, at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.

The UConn women's basketball will face UCLA at 1 p.m. on ABC. The men's team will take on St. Bonaventure at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN2.

"The Never Forget Tribute Classic is going to be a great event for UConn fans," women's basketball head coach Geno Auriemma said. "We get to face a really good opponent in UCLA and raise money for a great cause. Being able to play in a doubleheader with our men's team is really special for our fans who haven't seen us in person in over a year."

"It is an honor for us to once again be a part of the Never Forget Tribute Classic as we play a part in supporting an important cause," men's basketball head coach Dan Hurley said. "We will need UConn Nation to make the trip with us to the Prudential Center as we square-off against an outstanding opponent."

UConn women's basketball is 6-0 all-time vs. UCLA. The teams last met in the 2019 Sweet 16 in Albany, N.Y., which the Huskies won 69-61. The Bruins made their fifth straight NCAA Tournament appearance in 2021.

UConn men's basketball is 2-1 all-time vs. St. Bonaventure. The teams last met on Jan. 2, 2003, in a 95-78 win for the Huskies. The Bonnies won the 2021 A-10 regular season and conference championships en route to the program's eighth NCAA Tournament appearance.

The UConn men previously competed in the 2018 Never Forget Tribute Classic.

For the fifth annual year, the Never Forget Tribute Classic will support a 9/11-inspired charity; the recipient of support from the 2021 event will be unveiled in the coming weeks.

Tickets beginning at $40 go on sale to the general public beginning Friday, Sept. 10, at 10 a.m. at PruCenter.com/Events/Never-Forget-Tribute-Classic, Ticketmaster.com, and Prudential Center's Box Office.
