Two UConn football players are arrested

One current and one former UConn football player recently surrendered to the UConn Police Department to answer to an active warrant issued earlier this month.

Khyon Gillespie and ONeil Robinson, two 19-year-olds from Hartford, both were arrested and charged with third degree burglary, sixth degree larceny and proving a false statement.

A reserve running back, Gillespie turned himself in to campus police on Monday. He was released and is scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on Tuesday.

Robinson left the UConn football program after his sophomore season last fall and entered his name in the transfer portal. He surrendered to campus police on Monday and then released. He was given a court date of Feb. 25.

Both Gillespie and Robinson attended Capital Prep Magnet School in Hartford.

UConn issued a statement through football spokesperson Pat McKenna.

"We are aware of the situation. Oneil Robinson is no longer a member of the UConn football team and Khyon Gillespie has been suspended indefinitely. We have been in communication with the appropriate parties and will continue to cooperate with the authorities throughout this process."
