Waterford boys lose to Somers 19-5 in Class S lacrosse final

Top-seeded Somers used a six-goal outburst in the second quarter to break open a tight game and the Spartans went on to defeat No. 2 Waterford 19-5 in the Class S state boys' lacrosse championship game Saturday morning at McMahon High School.

Somers, the defending champion, held a slim 3-2 lead when it took charge with the six consecutive goals. It was the Spartans' fifth state title. Waterford was making its first title appearance in program history.
