Cantus perform tribute to our Armed Forces in Westerly

    Cantus (Curtis Johnson)

Minneapolis' superb vocal ensemble Cantus will appear Sunday afternoon in the Chorus of Westerly's George Kent Performance Hall. The eight-man group is renowned not just for its astonishing vocal blends and warm charisma but also a creative and compelling approach to programming. The outfit ranges from classical and pops repertoire to holiday music as well as The Beach Boys' "Pet Sounds."

For Sunday's recital, Cantus will perform "No Greater Love Than This," a heartfelt show focused on the bravery, honor, loss and camaraderie common to our servicemen and servicewomen. The bill includes works from Dvóřak, Bob Chilcott and John Lennon — as well as a specially commissioned work by Jeff Beal ("House of Cards"). It promised to be a stunning and moving tribute from an all-world ensemble.

    Cantus, 4 p.m. Sunday, Chorus of Westerly, 119 High St., Westerly; $17-$60, $10 students; (401) 596-8663.
