    Lamb visits UConn

It's a busy Sunday here in Storrs.

UConn coach Jim Calhoun just met with the media in his Gampel Pavilion office.

Highly-regarded recruit Doron Lamb is on an official visit, starting today.

Basketball practice started at noon. The Huskies are preparing to host Colgate Monday in an NIT Season Tip-Off first round game in Storrs.

Calhoun met with Lamb's parents this morning. The Huskies face some stiff competition for the 6-foot-4 combination guard out of Oak Hill Academy in Virginia. Lamb has already visited Kansas, Kentucky and Oklahoma and plans to visit Arizona in the upcoming weeks. No date has been set yet.

Lamb plans on picking a school after completing his tour. He says all five schools are even right now.

"I'm just looking for a good coaching staff, a winning school, good players that I can work around and fans that are crazy," Lamb said. "And a school that's basketball first."

Why is UConn on his list of finalists?

"They have a really good basketball program and academics," Lamb said. "And they get players in the NBA. That's what I'm trying to do."

The UConn coaching staff is telling Lamb that he'll fit in the program's system. And that he'll be a pro.

"Everybody is saying that," Lamb said.

There is one UConn connection for Lamb who played AAU basketball on the Gauchos with sophomore Kemba Walker. Lamb is from Laurelton, N.Y.

UConn also is recruiting Lamb's teammate, 6-8 forward Roscoe Smith, who visited Storrs last month. Smith has narrowed his list to UConn, Duke and Georgetown.
