Hartford — State Sen. Andrew Maynard, D-Stonington, Senate chair of the General Assembly’s Select Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, was recognized Tuesday at the fourth annual Veterans Day at the Capitol for his multi-year advocacy on behalf of Connecticut’s veterans.
Maynard accepted the Legislator of the Year Award on behalf of the entire Select Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, which works on legislation impacting all military personnel and veterans in the state.
"I’m overwhelmed; this is a phenomenal honor to me, and I accept it on behalf of the entire committee because, as chairman of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee, you’re really part of a team," Maynard said in a press release. "I did not have the honor of wearing our nation’s uniform, but I have the highest regard for those that do and those that have. Anything I can do to support our servicemen and women is my deepest honor."
Gary Waterhouse, an organizer and member of the steering committee for Veterans Day at the Capitol said Maynard has "worked across party lines as a dedicated advocate for Connecticut’s military personnel and their families and for veterans."
With the Valentine's Day holiday approaching, we wanted to see if any of our readers ever received a Valentine's gift that was memorably bad.
