Waterford - Millstone Power Station has received an extension from March 31 to late summer and early fall to complete certain security upgrades.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission approved the extensions to Aug. 30 for power supply requirements and Sept. 30 for alarm station requirements, which the NRC cannot describe in detail because they involve security.

Plants across the country have had to make upgrades involving such areas as fencing, barriers, motion detectors, etc., an NRC spokesman said. Dominion, the owner of the nuclear complex, needs more time to procure the equipment it needs and install it, the NRC said.
