Groton - Northbound train traffic on Amtrak's Northeast Corridor was interrupted for part of the day Saturday when a tarp got caught in overhead wires, preventing trains from passing.

Six trains were delayed, the longest of which was about three hours, according to Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham. Graham said the trains never lost power and had full manpower and services during the delay.

Scheduled maintenance work was already being performed on track No. 2, Graham said, which prevented the trains from being able to switch tracks and pass through.

The trains were back en route as of about 2:40 p.m., Graham said. There were expected residual delays throughout the day Saturday, she said.

There were no injuries.
