Cub Scouts team up to provide care packages to troops

Cub Scouts of Pack 492 team up with UPS and Deep River Snacks to provide care packages to the troops.

On Thursday May 12th, Madison Cub Scout Pack 492 held its annual ‘Pack-A-Box’ drive at Jeffrey School in Madison.

The drive held annually by the scouts and their families provides countless needed personal items to troops overseas.

This year the pack was assisted in providing for over 50 service men and women by Mr. Jim Goldberg of Deep River Snacks, who provided hundreds of bags of chips, as well as Mr. Jeff Von Flatern of UPS of Guilford/Clinton who provided boxes and shipping.

Among the many items collected for the troops were drink mixes, soaps, instant coffee, shaving kits, sanitizer, socks, candy, chips, snacks, toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss, shampoo, chapstick, granola bars and more.

Scouts made homemade cards for each packet and worked together at the drive on a thank you banner for the troops. Pictured are the Pack 492 Cub Scouts and their leaders, as well as Bob and Katie Russell, proud parents of Matthew Russell, a serviceman from Madison whose troop received items from last year’s drive.

Pack 492 wishes to share a heartfelt thank you to Mr. Goldberg and Mr. Von Flatern for their generosity and a special thanks to Mr. Dave Hilmer, Pack 492 Assistant Cub Master and Dr. Jonathan Stein for their hard work at arranging the drive.
