Tonight at the Groton City Municipal Building, Republican delegates from the 18th Senatorial District met and in a unanimous vote, endorsed Theresa Madonna as their candidate for State Senate. The 18th Senatorial District represents the towns of Griswold, Groton, Plainfield, Preston, North Stonington, Stonington, Sterling, and Voluntown. The nominating and seconding speeches spoke highly of Theresa’s numerous community service activities and her service on local boards serving non-profit agencies. Theresa is an attorney, a former college administrator, and professional in the healthcare field. She has her law practice in Jewett City, specializing in general law, estate planning, elder law, probate matters, consumer bankruptcy workouts, and small business matters.
Theresa is actively involved in the community serving as a board member of Thames River Family Program and Martin House both located in Norwich. She is a board member of A Reason to Ride in Griswold, a motorcycle club serving needy veterans. She currently serves as a corporator of the Jewett City Savings Bank and is a state appointee to the State of Connecticut Planning Commission for Higher Education. Theresa is on the Board of Trustees for St. Vincent’s College in Bridgeport, a board member of the Norwich Rotary Club. She has municipal experience in her service as a member of the Griswold Board of Selectmen and the Board of Education.
In her acceptance speech, Theresa thanked the delegates for their endorsement and emphasized her philosophy of what it means to be a public servant. She is anxious to serve the 18th senatorial district as their representative to the Connecticut Senate and looks forward to campaigning in the 8 towns in the district. Along with the delegates to the convention tonight, former Congressman Robert Simmons and former State Senator Cathy Cook were on hand to support Theresa Madonna as she begins her campaign.
