Police: Norwich woman helped conceal arson fire

Norwich- Police arrested a woman who they say helped conceal a May 7 arson fire at a multi-family building at 34 Spaulding St.

Jaynell Gibbs, 21, of 30 Spaulding St., was charged with tampering with evidence and second-degree false statement.

Police said Gibbs concealed a gas can that was used by the arsonist to start the fire, and then lied to police about any knowledge about the fire.

Gibbs is being held on a $25,000 bond, pending her arraignment today in Norwich Superior Court.

Earlier this month, police arrested Denise Djedje, 20, of 320 Central Ave., and charged her with first-degree arson and first-degree criminal mischief.

The Arson Task Force, whose members include Officer Robert Smith, SFC Peter Camp, State Police Det. Joseph Lombardi, and Norwich Fire Department Investigators Lauren Cassidy and Jake Manke, assisted with the investigation.

Anyone with information regarding arson fires is asked to call Smith at (860) 886-5561, the anonymous tip line at 860-886-5561, extension 500, or the Connecticut Arson Hot Line at 800-84ARSON.
