    UPDATED: Senate 33: Linares appears to be winner

    With 78 percent of the votes counted, the Associated Press is showing Art Linares leading the 33rd state Senate District race.

    Unofficial figures from 14 of the 18 voting districts show Linares, the Republican candidate, with with 20,310 votes, or 48 percent; Democrat James Crawford with 18,126 votes, or 43 percent; and Green Party candidate Melissa Schlag with 3,696, or 9 percent.

    The district covers a block of Connecticut River and shoreline towns, including all or part of Clinton, Westbrook, Essex, Deep River, Chester, Haddam, East Haddam, East Hampton, Portland, Lyme, Colchester and Old Saybrook. Incumbent Senator Eileen Daily did not run for re-election.
