State tournament football quarterfinals postponed
Connecticut high school sports just couldn't get through the fall season without another weather-related postponement. Tuesday's wintery mix postponed 12 of the 16 CIAC state football quarterfinals, including all the games involving local teams - Fitch, Montville and Norwich Free Academy. All 12 of those games will be played at 6:30 tonight.
Fifth-seeded NFA (10-0) will play at No. 4 Newtown (10-0) in a Class L quarterfinal, No. 7 Fitch (8-2) travels to No. 2 Windsor (9-0) in Class L and No. 8 Montville (8-2) plays at top-seeded Wolcott (9-1) in Class M.
The four games played were No. 8 West Haven at No. 1 Staples (Class LL), No. 7 Bullard-Havens of Bridgeport at No. 2 Berlin (Class M), No. 5 St. Joseph of Trumbull at No. 4 Hillhouse of New Haven (Class M), and No. 5 Hyde of New Haven at No. 4 Rocky Hill (Class S).
The postponements prompted the CIAC to push its semifinal round back a day to Sunday.
