Underground lines no magic power fix

This is in response to the letter, "Divert defense money to underground lines," Nov. 28. Having lived in two locations with underground telephone and electrical wires we found the views were phenomenal but when a storm or flood strikes it does not necessarily help retain power.

Any break along the route between where the power emanates and your house will cause an outage. As a matter of fact, the power in those areas would be shut down from the start to the end of the storm for fear of live wires along the route causing fires and worse.

To consider installing underground wires in the entire state would be not only exorbitantly expensive but unrealistic as they must travel for hundreds of miles. It's a great concept were we to start building from scratch but unrealistic now.
