Region expects 1 to 3 inches of snow accumulation; New London parking ban in effect

Skaters participate in a youth hockey program for ages 5-8 held on Monday evenings at The Rink in New London, with instruction by Theo Maryeski of New London Monday, Jan. 21, 2013.

A small snowstorm, which began around 4 p.m. today, is expected to bring one to three inches of accumulation to the region by the time the snow ends early Tuesday morning.

The city of New London has issued a parking ban, effective at 8 p.m. Free parking is available at the Water Street parking garage, according to a news release from the mayor's office. Parking is banned in downtown municipal lots as of midnight tonight.

Tonight's snow is the beginning of a cold week. The National Weather Service forecasts high temperatures in the 20s all week, with lows at night dipping into the single-digits. Early forecasts show the potential for a bigger snowstorm Friday into Saturday. Friday could reach 30-degrees, the warmest forecasted day of the work week.
