Ledyard — The Finance Committee adopted the town’s budget for fiscal year 2013-14 with some minor changes Wednesday night.

A single line item for road restoration under public works within the larger capital improvement plan was reduced by about $200,000, down to $400,000 — the same amount allocated for the past three years.

Mayor John Rodolico’s estimate of a half-mill tax increase was adjusted to just a little under three-tenths of a mill, said committee chairman and town councilor Mike France.

The proposed general government operating budget is now set at $20,442,567. The Board of Education budget proposal of about $29.7 million went untouched, and the total town budget proposal stands at $50,136,531. The finance committee will recommend the budget to the Town Council next week.

The committee also set the date for a public hearing on the town budget for 7 p.m. on April 22 in the Ledyard High School auditorium. The annual town meeting to discuss the budget is set for 7:30 p.m. on May 20 in the same location, with the referendum to be held from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. the following day.

Water Pollution Control Authority Chairman Jim Diaz also presented his proposed water operations budget to the committee, which includes a small increase from this year’s budget — up to $926,542 from $898,456 — and a rate increase for town water of 13 percent. The committee approved the budget, and the rate increase will go to a public hearing.

The committee also sent the bond documents for two major municipal building projects — a $45 million renovation of Ledyard Middle School and a $6.4 million new police station — that will go before the Town Council for approval next week. A town meeting to discuss both of these project proposals is set for May 13.
